Program Description:
The 40 Hour Georgia Director Training course equips participants with child care program planning and administration knowledge and skills including licensing, legal issues, developmentally appropriate practices, marketing, budget, facilities management, staff development, parental/community relations, ethics, professionalism, diversity and more. It is designed to meet the mandatory training requirement for directors in Georgia and provides professional information for early childhood professionals seeking to further their skills and knowledge in the management of a child care center. The program is broken into nine instructional modules. These modules focus on the core areas of competency required to manage a child care center.

Competency Goals: ADM-1, ADM-2, ADM-3, ADM-4, ADM-5, ADM-6, ADM-7, ADM-8, ADM-9

Required Resources: A textbook is required for this course and must be purchased at the student’s expense.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the 40 Hour Director Training, participants will be able to:
1. Analyze the planning and operational functions of a director.
2. Define and discuss components of a center’s philosophy.
3. Identify director responsibilities and facility management.
4. Identify the differences between statutes, regulations, and guidelines.
5. Identify child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
6. Identify the reasons that nutrition is important in an early childhood education setting.
7. Identify common hazards throughout the school facility.
8. Identify the goals of multicultural education.
9. List the benefits of teamwork in the early childhood environment.
10. Identify the characteristics of a leader.
11. Identify effective communication, interpersonal skills, and good rapport between program director, parents, and staff.
12. Define and identify key elements of an operating budget.
13. Identify effective marketing tools for child care centers.
14. Identify important strategies for increasing retention through internal marketing and parent communication.
15. Identify various forms of leadership abilities, child, family and staff advocacy, and the promotion of ethical guidelines in the work place.
16. Define, research, identify, and implement various types of resources.

Enrollment Requirements:
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED and submit documentation as proof
• Must have access to a computer and printer
• Must be able to speak, read, and write well enough in the language the course is presented in to understand and complete the course material
